April Bardwell

Miss April began dancing at the age of 9. When she was 18, she moved to California to join the Young Americans Performance Group where she had the opportunity to train with talented singers and dancers from all over the country.  After returning home to Ponchatoula, she was a 5 year member and 2 year Captain of the Southeastern Louisiana University Lionette Nationally Ranked Dance Team.  Miss April performed in and choreographed for multiple dance productions in her 4 years as a member of the Legworks Company & Izzy Moving Company at Southeastern Louisiana University.  She has trained with teachers and choreographers at Broadway Dancer Center in New York City as well as The Edge in Los Angeles.

In August, 2001, Miss April opened the doors to Steppin’ Out School of Performing Arts.  She believes in training her students to be versatile in many styles of dance, while focusing on their performance level and just having fun!  Her students have won many Overall Awards including Overall Senior Group and Overall Senior Soloist at the NYLA National Championship in Fort Walton Beach, FL.  She has choreographed for national winning dance teams including St. Thomas Aquantis Starlettes and Southeastern Louisiana University Lionettes. April is also a member of Dance Teachers United.

In August, 2017, Miss April closed the doors to Steppin Out to become a freelance Dance Instructor. She now teaches at Main Street Dance in Hammond, LA. She travels all over the Southeast Region choreographing for competitive studios as well. Miss April is also a Faculty Member for The Movement Dance Competition based out of Los Angeles, CA. Some of her students have moved on to become members of the New Orleans Saintsations, Southeasten Lionettes, cruise ship performers, award winning choreographers, Young Americans in California, and performers with Beyoncé in the Super Bowl. She is so proud of each and every one of her students and all of their achievements.
